WORLD DESIGN WEEKS established to connect
39 DESIGN WEEK events worldwide
Started in Tokyo in 1986, DESIGN WEEK events are now held in over 100 cities around the world. TOKYO DESIGN WEEK founded WORLD DESIGN WEEKS in 2014, calling upon cities around the world to join the consortium. Currently 39 cities have announced their participation, and the group is preparing for its official launch in 2017. The first WORLD DESIGN WEEK will be held in Helsinki. The second host will be decided at the Triennale di Milano WDW General Assembly in April 2016.

World Design Weeks Summit in Milano
On April 16, representatives of 29 design events from around the world will gather in Milan for an open-minded discussion of future activities at the second WORLD DESIGN WEEKS SUMMIT. By facilitating the exchange of people an exhibitions, WDW aims to promote the energetic activities of their respective cities and enliven design events around the world. In addition, the group will continue to carry out its activities under the theme of contributing to cities and communities, including measures to increase business opportunities and award competitions to help young creators with the development of their careers.
World Design Weeks Summit in Tokyo
On October 29, 2014 Design Week organizers from over 15 cities from around the world gathered at the Andaz Tokyo for the WORLD DESIGN WEEKS SUMMIT. Topics of discussion included the establishment of the World Design Weeks website, founding of an award competition, collection of Design Week electronic books, and utilization of the World Design Weeks network for the sharing of contents and business funding to support projects and productization by creators.
