Tokyo Designers Week believes art and design can change the world. TDW award program is open to artists and designers from around the world, we aim to raise awareness and celebrate world class creativity, connecting the worlds of business, media and design. 

Designer of the Year Artist of the Year

An international jury of over 300 members drawn from industry, education and cultural organizations have been invited to choose this years winners. The jury will nominate both "Designer of the year" and "Artist of the year" under the themes: Environment of the mind, Environment for Living and Environment of Earth.。

2010 Winners

Designer of the Year: Thomas Heatherwick

Heatherwick studio was founded in 1994 in Kings Cross, London, England. The studio employs a team of 30 architects, designers and production staff. Heatherwick studio manages a diverse range of projects; recent notable works include the design of the new Routemaster London bus, a Biomass power station, the British pavilion at the Shanghai Expo and the new Olympic Velopark in London. Thomas Heatherwick's 'Spun' chair, was a popular attraction at Tokyo Designers Week last year. Thomas Heatherwick is an Honorary Fellow of the RIBA and a Senior Fellow at the Royal College of Art and is the recipient of honorary doctorates from four British universities. Thomas was the youngest practitioner to be appointed a Royal Designer for Industry. He has also claimed several other prizes of note including a D&AD Yellow Pencil, the 2006 Prince Philip Designers Prize and the RIBA Lubetkin Prize.  www.heatherwick.com

Artist of the Year: Tokujin Yoshioka

Tokujin Yoshioka has worked on a wide range of projects from product design to architecture. Collaborating with companies from all over the world, including Issey Miyake, Hermes, Lexus, BMW, KDDI, Swarovski. His works are held in permanent collection at internationally renowned galleries such as MoMA in New York, Centre National d'Art et de Culture Georges Pompidou, Victoria and Albert Museum, Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum and Vitra Design Museum. Newsweek (USA) nominated him as one of '100 Japanese respected by the world'. Awards include: Mainichi Design Award, Cultural Affairs Section of Government of Japan, Encourage Prize, BVLGARI Brilliant Dreams Award, Good Design Award 2007, Design Miami Designer of the Year. TDW of the Year

A new "best in show" category, open to all exhibitors. The award will recognize the best work from the whole of TDW including, environmental design, art, TENT, container exhibition.

TDW Student of the Year

The selected TDW student of the year from the "Student Exhibition Plus", open to all eight creative disciplines. Our next goal is to make a traveling student design exhibition first around Japan, then across Asia.
