TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK started systematically as Designers’ Saturday in 1986 and was renamed as TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK in the year 1997, setting its venue continuously every fall for 28 years in the city of Tokyo. It is an international design event that gathers the excellent design and art from all over the world in areas close to our every-day lives, such as architecture, interior, product design, graphic design and art. Since 2005, the event has been provided the central venue of Meiji Jingu Gaien Mae (In front of Meiji-Jingu Memorial Picture Gallery) and developed into an event that attracting in 2012 a record number of over 100,000 people with highly sensitive opinions in the creative field. The event has allowed companies, organizations, embassies, schools, designers to become highly recognized by providing a place to announce their latest design and art through PR, product promotion, marketing and testing for branding purposes.

TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK 2013 will evolve from a design exhibition to a design festival aiming to gather all sorts of creativity into a 'Creative, Festival'. As the genres in creativity are naturally crossing country borders, the event has surpassed its boundaries and aims to broaden the experience of possibilities in the future of design and art. As a design festival, as well as those in the design and art field, it intends to create an opportunity for everybody, from children and adults, to experience and enjoy design and art. The event intends to propagate as everyone's design and as everyone's art.
Representative of 'VELVETA DESIGN'. Kimi graduated from Kuwasawa Design School. After working for a construction company and a design firm, she established 'VELVETA DESIGN OFFICE TOKYO' in 2004. Kimi works in various fields, designing the "atmosphere" being her main theme. One of her latest work is the "OMOTESANDO Illumination"/"IKSPIARI Christmas"/"OMOTESANDO HILLS FAÇADE RENEWAL"/"Ginza Christmas(KIBOU-NO-TUBASA)"/"NISSAN Design Center Board Room"/ etc... She also was one of the three leading female designers/artists of the next generation at Mazda Demio New Target EXPO. Kimi has received Display Design Awards and many others.
One of the two main contents represented by the “School Exhibition” & the “Young Creator Exhibition” have showcased so far more than 6,000 teams of students and young designers from both inside and outside Japan.
This year, a comprehensive Asian creative award has been established to gather all the young creative power from Asia and around the world in the centre of Tokyo. It aims to become a platform for students and young designers to help them develop their capabilities to excel on the global stage.

Together with the ASIA AWARDS Project we have also established the DESIGN ASSOCIATION NPO / ASIA AWARDS FOUNDATION. All the funds received from the corporate awards partners, together with the TDW 2013 event admission fee and THE PROFESSIONAL participation fee, will be used to manage and support the ASIA AWARDS Project.
